Ryan Harbuck Story

by Ryan Harbuck

A Colorado native,I have always found solace in the mountain air and have always been up for an outdoor challenge—as far as my wheelchair wheels could take me, or beyond. I have been a teacher and a swim coach, but enjoy being a Mom the most. My husband, Andrew, and I live in Denver with their two mudslinging, car-vrooming young boys.

When I was in High School, I was involved in a horrific car crash.  I had multiple injuries, the most serious of which was a T5 Spinal cord injury—paraplegia.  I am a wheelchair user.

While I have had to face certain challenges, I suppose I try not to let my challenges be defined by my disability, and know that everyone has challenges. I recently launched my memoir, “when I grow up I want TO BE A CHAIR,” which has been a lot of hard work and I am i’m so proud of it!

I am a public speaker for Creating SPACE. I’m beyond blessed to work with Creating SPACE because it allows me to connect with others and share my disability story. Having been a wheelchair user for over 26 years, I have learned so much about myself through navigating a world that wasn’t necessarily designed for me. It has taught me so much, and I am so proud of all I have done and who I am. Being a part of Creating SPACE helps me share my stories and life lessons with others that may otherwise not have the opportunity to understand what it means to be me.

I look forward to the opportunity to be a presenter for you soon!
